Baffling that Washington didn't go first. We have to be the worst D in the league. Then again, lots of shit is baffling with this org.

Not really, think about it. Both units are struggling and frankly regressing in their effectiveness and neither coordinator is making the necessary halftime adjustments. If they are they have been nearly ineffective all season.
The reason Condell went first is that they already had an experienced replacement on staff. Hamilton does not have anyone at this point that could step into the job at this point in the season.
Replacing Washington will have to wait until the offseason and that will only happen if the team is not screwed by Ambrosie's idiotic operations cap.

In the end it was time to replace Condell as all coaches have a shelf life and unfortunately for him his expiry date had passed. Despite the team assembling talent to match his game I do not believe as a whole the players that they signed are talented enough to succeed in this league.
I think a lot of the blame goes to the Oline and the piss poor coaching and talent that they have. However, at the same time Condell's playbook became so vanilla it was beyond predictable and that is a death sentence to any coordinator.

With sketchy run blocking and protection and no deep threat to stretch the defense what else remains but vanilla with out of the ordinary sprinkled in ? which was what Condell's offense was.

Steinauer, as a previous DC, could have run the D. That is, if he could tear himself away from bizarre clock management or poorly considered challenges

That would add a 4th job to his duties which to me puts the team in an even worse position then keeping Washington. Stein needs to give up one or two of his current jobs as him doing three like Chris Jones is making him ineffective at them all.

He currently only has 2 jobs - HC and Prez: ticats.ca/coaches/orlondo-steinauer/

It would only overload him if he were doing even 1 of them competently

Stein is dead man walking. You can see it in interviews that he's at his wit's end and has no idea what it will take to turn things around this year. Pisses me off that I (as well as others in this forum) saw this coming but have to put up with it for the remainder of the year.
