Interesting commentary from CoachE on the other site (Welcome to this one Coach).
I sat in my seats wondering why Tim White wasnt even looking on the 1st Int by Evans, explanation makes perfect sense. The 2nd one IMO is more on Evans as if Speedy actually was running the post he likely would have been smoked by the DB that eventually picked off the ball. Saw that play develop directly in front of me and what looks like a classic "overthrow" to the naked eye looks much different with some context.
Sometimes you wonder how a QB misses so bad - sometimes its not a miss, but a miscommunication.
Game meant nothing but to come out without major injuries, glad that appeared to happen.
Got the Ticats to cover 5.5 and under 43 so i'm a happy guy this morning.
On to Montreal, where the theme of the game will be our front 7 against their running game.

If one wanted to play which QB made the most mistakes game why didn't Masoli's inexplicably reckless underhand pass to absolutely no one that was almost picked not get a mention. Sheesh.
Totally agree with key being Stanback. Getting run over and losing time of possession is bad enough but that just sets the stage in getting shredded by their sneaky good rec corps.esp Weinke.

The other site is getting a bit toxic. I flagged at least three personal attacks/flame/troll posts last night.
I thought Dane played as well as could be expected, especially after reading Coach E's revelation about first-team reps.
The Tim White thing was perplexing, but I can understand why he thought he would never see the ball. It makes me think that Dane "sees" things differently, and that EVERY receiver on EVERY play should be ready for a pass - even if your "role" was to run a "clearing route".
There were some VERY interesting comments in the CAL-WPG game about it taking into their second year for American rookies to get a "feel" for the game up here. It looks like Acklin "sees" it this year, and Tim White and Dunbar will hopefully "see" it next year (if they re-sign with the team, not knowing their contract status). The same goes for all the other rookies/first-year CFL players, but these two are the ones to watch, IMHO.
Is Banks even half-effective this season? I know he's been banged-up, especially his ribs (did that pass REALLY have to be so high he HAD to leap for it?), but he's been looking lost out there. I can't tell (because the cameras focus on the lines and not the whole field on TV) if he's being doubled, can't get open, is too slow, doesn't care (intense emotions are a thing with him), or is simply frustrates with poor QBing, but he's certainly not the MOP from last season. Every vet has good years and bad years, and this may be Speedy's ONE bad year. I just hope that Father Time and that tiny body of his are not catching up to him yet. I have been wrong before, but I can't envision him (and maybe Teddy and Simoni too) being on the team for the 2023 GC.
The Defence really stepped it up. I know that it was SSK's backups for the most part, but it was still a great game from them.
Papi White was pretty good on returns. I would rather see a backup Receiver/DB returning kicks/punts than a starter, for obvious reasons (Frankie). Yes, I know Earl Winfield was both, but he was a VERY special case, and the roster was smaller and more Canadians needed to start back then too.
Katsantonis is, IMHO, the steal of the draft. It's not often a rookie Safety can come in (even if due to injured veterans) and perform as well as he has this year.
Kicking. It's still a thing, and I expected nothing else from a guy that has already been replaced once, and who hasn't been kicking in live games for a while. The VERY FIRST PLAY OF THE GAME resulted in a penalty for an Illegal Kickoff OOB that gave SSK instant field-position. That first FG miss almost made me need to buy a new TV because of a remote suddenly piercing the screen. Then I calmed down and remembered that "everything's okay" and that it was a meaningless game. Do we have a 1A/1B kicking tandem? I know that the new guy has to go through quarantine, but...
Congrats to Simoni for breaking Hitchcock's tackle record. Hitch had to get a dig in about HOW he broke it "A two-hand touch isn't REALLY a tackle" but he seemed happy for him.

I don’t know that Speedy would’ve been “lit up”, I’d have to see it again, but with the DB stumbling and diving to pick the ball off the ground for the pick, I think Speedy might’ve been fine. But I could also see where he might’ve had “flashbacks” from the last time he went to catch a ball in that same end zone, in the same spot (ie. when he hurt his ribs) - like I said, I’ll have to look at it again, right now I’m enjoying Dane and Nikki!!

I believe it was the pass to Kalinic when were down near their end zone that I saw Speedy drift out to wide side flat & get followed by 3 Riders. I really think that missing Addison is a big reason why he hasn't been quite as effective this year.

As for Hitch's comment about how Simoni broke his record, I've been watching Hitch & Morreale's podcasts on YouTube, & it's just good natured ribbing. He has said that Simoni would have fit right in with their championship defence in 1999, because they had so many characters on that team.

Actually agree with pretty much everything you've said. . .but particularly with Katsantonis. He and Kameron Kelly have been really pleasant surprises for me this season.

Sorry for the last contentless post. Just figuring out how to quote and answer. I also agree with most of sigpig's post but I think he's being a little harsh on Speedy. Yesterday was the first game I was able to attend in a while and I kept my binoculars focused often on Speedy. There were times when he was being double teamed and smothered but there were many times when he was open including at least one memorable time when he was behind all the defenders, arm raised. Unfortunately on the play, Masoli had the walls collapsing on all sides and never even had an opportunity to look downfield. I think we're looking at a number of factors with Speedy that include o-line protection, the absence of Addison for most of the season to draw attention, and nagging injuries. I don't believe it's a case of him being too slow, not caring, or being frustrated with poor QBing.

You can't see the entire field on TV, so that's why I was thinking of him being doubled. I never doubted his toughness. I am sure he is still playing hurt.
You have to admit that his production is WAY down from the past couple of seasons.
He had his best year with Dane as his QB for most of it.

The poor O line play has been the biggest issue for this team all year, although they have certainly picked it up in the latter half of the year. I have no doubt that if whoever is in at QB gets time to throw, we have a shot at the whole thing.

But they'll have to play 3 of their best games of the season and all of them, QB included has to beat 3 quality teams in a row.... Doesn't seem like much until you look at the numbers.

I'd say we could squeak by one of Mtl or Toronto with a standout performance by the defence & just an adequate offensive performance, but if we get by both, that O line will need to play the game of their lives to bring the Cup home. Even though we have played like crap against the Argos this year (except on LD), I'm more concerned about Mtl than Toronto, although I can't think of a time where a player has guaranteed a win & followed through on it. Thanks, Levels!

Most of the game in Edmonton he was by himself body language looked very dejected. What ever is going on he is not himself.
