I believe it was the pass to Kalinic when were down near their end zone that I saw Speedy drift out to wide side flat & get followed by 3 Riders. I really think that missing Addison is a big reason why he hasn't been quite as effective this year. Speedy doesn't look like he is having any fun this year. Most of the game in Edmonton he was by himself body language looked very dejected. What ever is going on he is not himself. It sure looks that way from the stands.

It sure looks that way from the stands. He's an extremely emotional guy, and it shows in his body language and demeanor. It gets him off his game, unfortunately. It's the one real thing that bugs me about him. Especially if he pulls temper tantrums and calls out his QB. He's been through a lot, injury-wise recently (sports hernia in the GC, rib injury this year) and I'm sure he's playing throught a LOT of pain.

An aging player, gong show offenses at times, speed diminishing, career winding down, not a featured player anymore. Not really a mystery, imo.

There are at least three players that I don't expect back next year, whether the team decides their fate or whether they do it on their own by retiring. Those three players would be Mike Daly, Ted Laurent and Brandon Banks.

Now sure this organisation has the stones to do it.

They have to handle Speedy with more class than they showed Hitchcock & Morreale though. Someone on the team forum posted links to the 2014 East Final when Banks scored 2 kick return TDs & had a third called back. Watching the clips, he sure looks different now, far less explosive. It'll be interesting to see if he retires, because he's said previously he won't play anywhere but Hamilton. That could certainly change if he's given an ultimatum. This could be the equivalent of Montford in double blue. And they'd probably sign him there too.

I DO remember a video he did with Sanchez about using his speed differently - not going fulll-throttle all the time, but maybe 80% in the route before using his quickness to make a cut/get separation from a defender.
With the (generally) poor QB play this year (at least, not up to last season's standards), I'm not sure what his targets/completions are compared to the past three seasons. No team can afford high-priced veterans to fulfill a a backup role. There will be a new CBA before next season, so THAT can change things too. The scary thing is, Laurent on a bum knee is STILL better than most DTs in the League - he still gets double-teamed, he still is good against the run (but not nearly as dominant) and really anchors the D-line.
I can see Daly coaching in the VERY near future.
The next one to talk about is Simoni. I'm NOT suggesting the team cut him in ANY way as long as he's able to perform at this level. How much longer he can do that is another question. I don't realistically see him on the roster for the 2023 GC. I would LOVE to be proven wrong, however.
The team absolutely HAS to find replacements at both Tackle positions. CVZ isn't getting any hounger, and LT has been a season-long experiment, IMHO, that likely contributed to BOTH QB injuries.

As much as I love the dude, I doubt Simoni is here in 2023, unless he has access to the fountain of youth. I guess it might be possible, although he'll be 34. Nic Cross is a possible replacement, which will help with my next point.
I wouldn't be surprised if Murray and Vornkahl are our tackles going forward. That will also mean we'll probably need a replacement for Laurent, possibly via free agency.
The team posted on Twitter that Addison is coming off the 6 game today. Hopefully he's good to go this week.

Sorry for the last contentless post. Just figuring out how to quote and answer. I also agree with most of sigpig's post but I think he's being a little harsh on Speedy. Yesterday was the first game I was able to attend in a while and I kept my binoculars focused often on Speedy. There were times when he was being double teamed and smothered but there were many times when he was open including at least one memorable time when he was behind all the defenders, arm raised. Unfortunately on the play, Masoli had the walls collapsing on all sides and never even had an opportunity to look downfield. I think we're looking at a number of factors with Speedy that include o-line protection, the absence of Addison for most of the season to draw attention, and nagging injuries. I don't believe it's a case of him being too slow, not caring, or being frustrated with poor QBing. I think with Banks, he's lost a bit of a step. That's not the whole issue, but Masoli can't just heave it up as hard as he can and assume Banks is gonna run under it anymore. Don't think the QB's were ready for that and haven't adjusted/been able to adjust after the full season (2 for masoli) off. Banks hasn't been the same, but that's clearly not the whole story.

Unlike Banks, who has clearly lost a step (or three) Simoni is playing very strong. I suspect he'll be back.

Agree with you on Laurent. As a starting Canadian on defence he is still pretty valuable. I don’t see Nic Cross being ready to take over from Kam Kelly next year ( maybe 2023?). Unless you moved Adeleke over to corner and start Katsantonis at safety, or Mason Bennett could unseat one of Howsare or Davis, could I see them moving on from Laurent in 2022. Other possibility is one of the 2021draft picks, either Deane Leonard or Mohammed Diallo comes up here and can be a day one starter but I would say this is a long shot. So if Ted is willing, they may bring him back for one more year. Always figured this would be Banks last year. I think he signed for one more shot at a title, especially at home. Have to wonder how much more he’s willing to put his body through. Daly I could see coaching at Mac. He’s had his share of injuries. Simoni will be back in 2022 but after that who knows. Then again Kyries Hebert played into his late thirties. After a quiet start Lawrence has really picked it up.

We'll see if Montreal can get Lewis dressed.
Guess it'll be a game day decision.
