Is it just me, or were there a LOT of iffy penalties called yesterday? Ones that normally wouldn't be called in a playoff game?
Refs lost control in the AFC game. Mainly due to themselves.
49ers - draft/sign/develop a new QB with an incredible team around him - breaks his ankle in Game 2. Hand the car keys to Garoppolo, team played well, hopes are high, then sprains foot. Third-string QB, the so-called "Mr. Irrelevant" comes in and does nothing wrong and helps the team win games. Hopes that were down are raising. Playoff win raises them higher. NFC Final. Purdy is ineffective vs PHI's Defence. Gets a stinger/arm injury. 4th-stringer comes in and really doesn't do anything to LOSE the game, but what can you do? Then, gets concussed on a sack. Gulp. McCaffery is the emergency backup-to-the-backup QB, and is in there mostly for Wildcat plays. That didn't last. Purdy had to come in and play left-handed for the rest of the game.
So, not the NFL's fault. The 49ers were down to their 5th-string emergency QB on the season. Pretty tough to play like that...
