I have no idea how this happened in light of the fact that he told the players he was leaving prior to the Eastern Final. It had to be a culmination of things that happened during the season.

1. Lost whatever "shared vision" or philosophy etc there remained with Stein.
2. Flat out told by Stein he was being replaced by unemployed buddy.
3. Felt disrespected, underappreciated in general football-wise.
4. Disrespected and underappreciated by management money-wise.
Not at all sure a shrug and "oh well, CFL coaches come and go, thats the nature of the biz" is the way to go here.

Likely a combination of more then one point you made. I suspect that his vision of how things should be and the teams vision had diverged to the point where JR just said see ya later.
