Just looking through the 3Down articles about the top paid players at each position group.
QB1: 9th spot... checks out
RB/FB: Butler also checks in at 9th spot, VERY surprised by this, gets even lower once you factor in total potential bonus dollars.
(oddly enough Ante Milanovic-Litre rounds out the list at number 15, his bonus potential is higher than Butler's.... weird)
WR/SB: Timmy at 6th... that is all... WPG for comparison's sake check in at 2nd,3rd,4th spots, Edmonton at 1st and 7th spot
OL: Ticats check in respectably with two players this time around. Revenberg at 5 (with the potential to jump to 4 with bonuses) Beard at 7. Have typically had some large $$ amounts committed here to guys that may or may not see a full season.
(CVZ, Fig, etc)
fun note:
No team has more than 3 players on the list (SSK who just spent a tonne on their line) 5 teams checkin in with 2 (EDM, HAM, TOR, BC, CAL), Ottawa and Winnpeg coming in with 1 each (although Ottawa does have the top spot on the list) and 2023 Grey Cup Champs Montreal, oddly enough with no one on the list... makes me think there's something funny going on there with their books... but that's another story.
DL: Hamilton again, not checking in til 6th, but go on a run with 7th, and 8th as well. (Sayles, Hendrix, Barlow)
Toronto for comparison's sake enters the chat with 1st,2nd,12th. The rest of the top 15 seems fairly well spread out after a few notable retirements this year.
LB: (MLB, WLB) (only a top 10 list...)
Hamilton has.... *checks notes* ... no one... three former ticats check in at 2nd, 4th, and 8th, but that doesn't really do much aside from pump up the scouting staffs of years past. Moving on...
DB: List contains DBs, CBs, FS, and SAM players from the looks of it.
Hamilton does well again, checking in at 3rd and 6th, in what looks like fairly well deserved $$ amounts (Peters and Kats)
Every team does check in here, no one with more than 2, only three teams with 1 (both Albertas and Saskatchewan)
I'd be pretty interested to see how this ranks out without the SAM linebackers involved, but they're essentially DBs for the most part anyway...
The quick review is pretty much exactly what you might expect the Ticats $$ priorities to be.
DBs, DLs, OLs, and running depth.
It'd be interesting to see which positions are the the most efficient use of dollars are spent. (probably american DBs and receivers if I had to guess, but who's to say.)
Do with this information what you will.
