BC @ WPG -
Asked Dane what was the difference between how the Lions prepped for the week vs. how Ham would prep for the week vs. the best team in the league.
His response -
Outside the last time they played (I’ll get back to this), Offensively in Ham, every other time they played, the Offense would completely rebuild itself and try to run plays they’ve never ran before and would hodge-podge together a Frankenstein Offense to try to attack them - the entire attitude being that they are the best team in the league and we have to “trick it up” to beat them.
This past week in BC, on a short week, they were adamant about doing what they do and attacking them that way - knowing they’re still the best team in the league, but in order to give their team a chance, they have to run the plays they run all the time. Just an example of the 2 different approaches.
Back to the last time they played - when Ham manhandled them, Offensively anyway. The “feeling” he got from the coaches offices was that the season was over and they didn’t want to spend the time to “trick it up” and we’ll just run our base stuff - very similar to when the 2nd QB comes off the bench with no reps all week, he gets the base stuff, the stuff that everyone is most comfortable with, and they are usually fairly successful.
Thought might be of interest in the approaches to WPG.
If they’ll just keep it Base, Matt (or whoever their QB is((even Bo))) will be fine. Do you game plan and put in a few plays based on what you see, of course - Do you totally trick up your offense from week to week, only if you want to have an offense that your team/players don’t believe in.
