I think the Ticats are sleeping with Ed Hervey!!! Letting players go but not signing many new players. We need better receivers, punt returner, defensive line and defensive backs etc. Waiting until players all signed by other team before they make a move like always. Np wonder why they never going to win the GC!!!
Can someone please go and see if Hervey fell asleep? I am utterly not impressed so far.
No? I mean i'm not doing cartwheels or anything, but so far I feel better about it than I did last year, and last year took a whole lotta convincing So far - Oline locked in, commitment to American OTs rather than hoping and praying for Saxelid to become a thing and CVZ to not be 45. Pretty happy about this so far B+- Williams for Thurman - don't know if its makes us better, but its clearly a shift of positional thinking that might be felt elsewhere. Uncertain -Peters added to secondary (possible loss of Leonard... which.... i wasn't the biggest Leonard fan, his analytics always seemed to be off the charts good.... but his tackling sucked hind teet. A -DLine beefed up - Don't love that it looks like Dylan Wynn won't be back, but that's more of a "my favourite player isn't gonna be here anymore" bitching than a moves themselves bitching. Hervey added players that'd be 1st and 3rd on the team in sacks last year. And they did that in rotational roles, which surprise! is mostly how the cats do Defensive line. Carney is gone, but he did SFA last year, Davis did even less, other Davis looked good, but he likely won't be back now... Barlow Sayles Hendrix Bennet doesn't look too shabby yet, and there's still Betts and Jeffcoat as far as impact DEs looking to sign contracts. B+ with the possibility of getting up to an A++
Milanovic-Litre - One of the few 'actual' signings... honestly, i don't know much other than he looked good against us last year, so on vibes this one gets a B+ as well. So far this negotiation window is settling in at a solid B to B+. That can be improved upon, but also, if Tim White doesn't come in (and preferably at a number similar to Schoen and not the 22% more that he was initially asking for) that offseason grade has the potential to NOSEDIVE into the failing grades. Don't know how much more news we'll get between now and Tuesday. Superbowl might take up a fair amount of oxygen and teams are gonna want to brag and have that news actually be heard, not just get swallowed up.

So Jackson Jeffcoat retired like the second I hit "Create Post" apparently.... so that's less of a thing, but hey, Betts would be pretty cool...

At this stage it just seems like the Betts domino has to fall one way or the other, and that’s hanging up what they want to do with the rest of the roster. Just hope we don’t lose out on some good players chasing a pipe dream. Even with Jeffcoat retiring you’ve still got Robertson and AC Leonard as decent ends who could give you a decent year or two, or re-sign Jamal Davis. But they need to figure out the receiver situation and I think that’s where some fans get the “Hervey hasn’t done anything vibe”. Have to believe Bo didn’t leave all that money on the table so he could throw to three rookies. I’d say if Betts hasn’t decided by early next week it ain’t happening and let’s move on.

According to Farhan, Betts is apparently set to sign a futures deal with the other Lions somewhere over near Windsor... probably opens things up on Tuesday a little bit

I highly doubt he'll get a legit shot down there. This is his prime CFL earning period right now; going down there at his age makes it unlikely he'll get playing time & even less likely he'll be able to last long enough to get an NFL pension. If his agent isn't telling him this, he needs new representation.

Great. Betts goes south then 3DN's Betts Watch starts all over again.

Godwin signed. A lot seem to think he's a budding star. I don't get it but can't rule it out either.

Godwin signed. A lot seem to think he's a budding star. I don't get it but can't rule it out either. I like what he brings to the table, seemed to be one of the few guys that was clutch on 2nd down once Duke Williams dried up Hopefully he can keep improving in year three. If he's the 2-3 guy i'm pretty happy, if he's forced into the 1 role because timmy thinks he's worth a QBs salary then we might have an angry Espo on our hands...

Godwin made some highlight reel catches, but also had games where he struggled with some easy ones. He's a good 2nd option, but not sure he's a #1 target.

Agree, he gives us some reliable production but I don’t think he’s going to draw double coverage. Should improve with more time in the offence. So if Timmy re-signs that leaves us almost back to where we were at the end of 2023. Wonder if they go after Bailey/Whitehead still or try to go Canadian with someone like O’Leary-Orange/Mayala. Without Betts signed the other ratio option is Mason Bennett/Diallo rotation on defence.

Richard Leonard re-signs. I was hoping to pull Ciante Evans back from MTL but he fits the scheme I guess

Dylan Wynn says goodbye. Classy. Hate to lose a character guy. His give-a-damn meter always ran high.

Would have liked him at the right price.
But I'll give Hervey credit. He's not messing around.

Nice write up and I respect the optimism you have but frankly I do not share it at all.
- I do not feel that the offensive line has improved and am at the prove it point. - The defensive line has improved and that is good - I am not convinced that the linebackers are not significantly weaker then last year. Hopefully Williams will prove me wrong but with Edwards now retiring I still believe that the unit was better last season.
- As for receiver lets see what happens when free agency is fully open. I am happy that they resigned Godwin but if White leaves they need to sign a number one. Losing McAllister really hurts the team.
- Litre will be a good depth piece and he did well in that kind of roll for Ottawa last year.
- Peters is a nice start to revamping a poor secondary unit.
If the team is improved then I will be happy. However, I will not get my hopes up for this team until I actually see them play as I have zero faith in the brain trust of the franchise.
