On paper, the team got better. I don't understand this trade either. on the surface it's an admission they didn't develop the OL as well as they wanted to. And if that's the case it's progress. |

An admission that the players (projects) they believed it didn't work. |

John Hodge described Beard as "probably one of Edmonton's five best players".
While I don't know if that's true, it's a recognition that they haven't developed Gibbon properly. Who else wonders if they offered Okafor first?

Didn’t realize Beard had been playing centre for the Elks, so this makes a lot more sense. Fontana likely out for a while and Woodmansey is probably better at guard than centre. Having a 7 year vet anchor the line should help, and he’s also signed through 2023 so can give Fontana competition next year.
Gibbon never seemed able to step up and take a starting job here but could still develop down the road. Good deal for Edm too in that they get a second rounder in exchange for a fourth and shed some salary.

It isn't someone on the roster, and tbh Jones and Smith have looked great (when healthy on the part of the former, when targetted on the part of the latter) |

I have no issue with this trade as Gibbon has not become the player they thought he would and with Gibbon as coach I think we can write off most young Olinemen with this team.
