We technically won the game, but Orlondo did everything possible to lose it.
Pulling Dane for Schlitz (sic) should have been cause for dismissal.

Only joy was Evan's answering Stein's needless challenge of his confidence/ability. Nothing else. Reality is a stubborn thing. This isn't a well coached or well, constructed team. Bad things will continue to happen.

"Why no 2 point conversion?" Is making the rounds on CFL social media. Lol, Stein, take a bow.

Coaching decisions: TWO 3rd-down gambles that failed. One in the opponent's end-zone when a FG would have gotten us to within 2 points. The idiocy of benching Dane for Schlitz in the first place. An "Atta boy" for actually getting the wind in the 4th quarter. Relying on trick plays (handoff to Dane?) rather than their actual, you know, offence.
There's a LOT of praise for The Kneel for his play today. He's STILL not a top-tier receiver. I'm not even sure Addison is a top-ten receiver in a nine-team League. At some point, decisions will have to be made about personnel. Unfortunately, I think it might be time to relieve the team of burdensome contracts of underperforming aging players (Micah and Teddy come to mind). Those two have been invisible this season.
As I posted on the other board, there sseems to be a lack of accountability on this team, and that starts right at the top in the President's office; as technically Scott Mitchell is the only one other than Bob who can discipline or fire Orlondo. None of the three GMs can do it, because he outranks them. I was surprised as hell that ST-E put on a uniform for this game, after Orlondo's "You have to catch the ball" comment after last weeks loss. What does that say to the other players that a man can screw-up that badly in two consecutive games and STILL get playing time?
Fontana in his first full-length game in over two years didn't impress me at all today, and that doesn't even take into account the fumble he forced (that some idiots continue to blame Dane for). I'm actually thinking that Gibbon was better at Centre, as far as blocking goes. The O-Line is so bad that even Revenberg is looking decidedly average for once.
Dane proved again why he has huge brass ones on that final drive. I see it as him saying "Eff you Orlondo" and showing why he's the starting QB.

"Why no 2 point conversion?" Is making the rounds on CFL social media. Lol, Stein, take a bow. But nobody in the media will question that stupid decision post-game. We won, everybody be happy!!!!! As I said, the ONLY reason I can think is that Orlondo had more confidence in Domagala than his Offence to score a PAT rather than a 2-point. The PAT obviously gave us a 2-point lead (where a FG can win it for them), but a failed 2-point attempt would leave us with a single point advantage. A Rouge on a missed FG (especially if Tim White was in the end zone) ties the game - and that was close to happening.
It's a moot point because it worked, but I'm not all that convinced a 2-point would have been any different, except to give us a 3-point lead. I honestly don't know what way I would have gone in that situation.
Now, the decision on the third-down gamble in the series BEFORE this, however, should be up for debate. A FG would have put us two points down, with time on the clock. A defensive stand (which they did) would give them tha ball back for a last-second FG attempt for the win. Instead, the ball was intercepted (why Schilz was throwing the ball in that situation is beyond me), and we got the ball back.
These decisions continue to puzzle me, because they seem SO counter-intuitive...

Remember when the TC Booster club went ape when I said Fontana was dumpster diving. Yeah, me neither.

(Disclaimer, I have not watched the replay of the game yet)
The Good
- Dane overall played very well. He was 21-28 / 342 and 2 TDs. - 0 INTs - The OLine gave him time (in spots) and he did well with it. - The Shiltz package, early on I was happy to see it for the first series, and the series that included the plays with Evans. Im going to disagree with Sig that it's gimmick plays as it puts things on film that they can work off of. I was happy to see some more creativity that (when you get no pass protection) keeps the defence looking at different things. You'd think they'd now build in some fakes to Dane and use him as a decoy. - I didn't overly mind letting Shiltz have the drive after the Evans fumble - Evans is a very firey and emotional player and we did get the ball back quickly, so letting him have some time to cool off wasn't terrible in my opinion.
- Lawrence Woods is a solid punt returner. Really happy we found him and nice pick up. - Defensively we held up fairly well, minus points off turnovers we win this game easily. - Steven Dunbar's catch has Catch of the Year potential.
- Johnson 2 for 66 / TD - Nice Debut. (Cant fumble the football)
- Howsare had 2 sacks
The Bad - Woods literally slowed down on that punt return, didnt realize someone was coming from the other side and thought he was walking in. When he realized he kicked it back up a gear and hurt himself. He'll hopefully learn from that mistake. - Giving Shiltz the drive after the punt return was the wrong decision IMO. I was wondering if he was being brought in for that "package" but it looked like they ran the regular offence. That was the mistake by Stein. The one series after the Evans fumble I can live with, but Evans has earned his spot and at that point he should have been back in the game. The 3rd down play was terrible. Shiltz finished 2/4 - 27 yds and an INT. Outside of the specific package we've seen with LeFevor, Masoli, etc. He can't be in the game for an extended period. It took Steinauer and Co. 15 weeks to pull Masoli last year, the second drive was the wrong decision.
- If Dane didn't have fumble issues earlier in the year I might let this one go as dumb luck, but man he needs to hang on to the football. Having said that, if he doesnt fumble we punt from our endzone, and they likely get a FG. Still, I expect him to clean this up as it was more dumb luck than anything.
The Ugly - The entire sequence to end the game was horrendous, and yet we still won. We get the ball at the 9 yard line and immediately i said "Here comes 2 inside handoffs" - THEN THEY DID IT! - Now 3rd down rolls around - there's 30 seconds and a running clock. We snapped the ball immediately after the play gets blown in. Its 3rd down. You arent getting the ball back. You have to allow for them to get the ball... at minimum run the clock down another 10 seconds to 20, snap it. If there's a penalty you'll get 2 more plays from the 1. But you left them time and you didnt have to. That almost cost us as the kickoff should have been the final play, at worse they get 1 deep shot. That's on Stein/Condell/Evans for not having more awareness. - After scoring, to make matters worse you kick the convert? Why? I'm trying to come up with any possible reasons for this decision... They didnt want a punt to TIE it? (Better than a FG to WIN)... They figured it was over and wanted the point for point differential? Stein continues to make these terrible in game decisions and Boris Bede would have had the leg to win that game. Result aside, that is inexcusable coaching. I have no idea if he was asked about it but if he says "I didnt want a single to tie us" that's absolutely absurd.

Fontana bear-hugged the ball out of Dane's hands from behind. It was literally punched out by his own Centre.
I was wrong about what series I lambasted Orlondo for. It was the one after the punt return with the INT. Idiocy.
I didn't even pay attention to the absence of anything called "clock management" at the end of the game. I guess Orlondo has yet to learn that piece of coaching after 3 years.
More to follow...

O's clock management sucks donkey balls. Why (and I've been saying this for what feels like years, because it has been) do we not throw a quick slant when we're inside the opposition's 5 yard line? Ffs.

I say the same thing to my friends at the game. If you are on the 2 or 1 then I can see running the ball, but on the 3 or 4 I agree that a quick slant is the best option. Drives me crazy too!!!
