Lalji is so out of his depth it's laughable. The stuff you have to come up with after watching maybe two HAM games a year. And they haven't played BC yet.

All offensive staff should have a strip torn off them. Trouble is, I don't think Steinauer would do it, because it doesn't fit his style. Also, he seems to be just as stubborn as Austin when it comes to recognizing & changing his systems. As I posted before, I think I'd have a heart attack if they ever made any halftime adjustments. Gonna be a long season. Do you even think we have enough talent on offense to be marginally better than we've seen? I don't think we can run the ball with this OLine. I don't think we can protect long enough to try anything intermediate or down field. I don't think we have the receivers to challenge defenses with speed, height and more importantly... smarts. In a word, no. Personnel changes are required at receiver and O line, with possible coaching changes at those position groups as well. Also, Condell needs to have a talking to; if you identify protection issues, you need to alter your playcalling to help out the O line. Draws, screens and quick hitters to counter the rush, for example. Once that's established, then you can mix in intermediate & deep routes depending on how the d tries to counter it.

At least you're not blaming Evans for having too strong of an arm. Last year I was reading people saying Masoli had a stronger arm (which was absurd) and now people say he throws the ball too hard. That's a new one on me.

That's a new one on me. Not justifying it, but I can see why some people would think that. He seems to have less touch on screen plays or when he's forced to dump it off to a RB than Masoli did. That being said, STE should be sat for how many throws he's missed that went for an INT. The whole receiver group needs to get their shit together. Ditto for the O line. If Steinauer is considered a players' coach, this is the time for him to put his foot down. It's supposed to be more meaningful when a players' coach takes a hard line, but it can't be overused, or the message gets lost, like it did with Frank Kush. I feel our biggest immediate issues are O line & situational playcalling. Beyond that, Steinauer's in-game coaching and decision making and failure to make second half adjustments are poor, at best. But I don't expect those to be addressed, since Steinauer is the one who'll have to address them & he hasn't done it for 2 years.

Why is everybody forgetting that?

Agree that there have been a couple throws that might have been too hard for the situation, but the idea that "Evans throws too hard" is absurd and it's a theory being floated around. In 1997 when Danny Mac had Andrew English as his top receiver nobody said "he throws too hard" - the guys can't catch! Anyways, i'm not even sure he's considered a players coach. June Jones was a players coach. Stein to me just seems more like a guy that doesn't want to show emotion out of some fear that its a weakness. In all walks of life you take things from the people that helped shape who you are and Austin would have been one of those people to Steinauer. He may have made a conscious decision "I'm not gonna be like him" or it's just his personality. He does strike me as a bit of a throwback to a Lancaster who walks around the sidelines without a headset and lets the co-ordinators run the show. That's well and good but you are going to either sink or swim with them.
